    Toilet Repair and Replacement

    TooeleAugust 2026

    Problem
A toilet needed a new flange, and the main line needed jetting to help with an odor.
    What we did
We pulled the toilet, removed the metal and the old flange, installed a new flange, and reset the toilet. We jetted the main line from the upstairs bathroom.
  • Sewer Camera Inspection

    TooeleSeptember 2026

    Problem
A sewer line needed a camera inspection.
    What we did
We ran the camera through the toilet about 79 feet out to the city main. The toilet line was ABS until it met the pipe under the slab, which appears to be cast iron out to the street and shows mainly rust. About 56 feet out, a piece of pipe in a no-hub seems to have shifted up enough to catch some toilet paper, but the bottom of the pipe is intact and flowing, with no sign of bellies.
  • Ice maker box installation

    TooeleMay 2026

    Problem
An ice maker needed an ice maker box and a new line.
    What we did
We cut into the drywall, mounted the ice maker box there, and replaced the line to the ice maker with 1/4-inch PEX.
  • Pressure regulator and ball valve relocation

    TooeleMay 2026

    Problem
A pressure regulator and a ball valve needed to be relocated, with a connection added for a sprinkler addition.
    What we did
We relocated the pressure regulator, replaced and relocated the ball valve, and added a 1-inch tee and a ball valve with a drain port for the sprinkler addition. We drilled the hole and replaced the line all the way to the outside, coming out in copper because PEX is not rated for UV light.
  • Tankless Water Heaters

    TooeleApril 2026

    Problem
A tankless water heater needed a flush.
    What we did
We flushed it, first with a vinegar solution and then with Flow-Aide.

Where does Tooele's water come from, and how hard is it?

Tooele's water is groundwater. Tooele City's 2025 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report says the city water system draws from one spring and fourteen wells (source). The report lists total dissolved solids of 264 to 652 ppm, sampled in 2025. Those are the lowest and the highest values found across the city's sources. It lists no hardness figure, so we do not quote one for Tooele. Dissolved solids and hardness are two different measures. What the range does show is that the wells differ, so your tap may not match a tap across town. We test the water at your tap before we size a water softener. Have it tested if you see white, crusty scale on faucets and shower heads, spots on dishes, or a water heater that rumbles or pops as it heats. That noise is scale in the tank, and it is a reason to call for water heater repair.

Why is the water pressure so high in parts of Tooele?

Elevation. Tooele City's Drinking Water System Master Plan says its pressure zones are numbered from the highest part of the city, in the southeast, toward the northwest, with pressure reducing valves at every zone boundary. The plan's model predicts that many areas see more than 100 psi, the city's preferred maximum, at the lowest elevations of seven zones and mostly when demand is low. The highest predicted pressures are 115 to 120 psi. The plan says the city should require a pressure reducing valve (PRV) for each new connection (source). High pressure strains pipes, hoses, and valves. Signs are banging pipes, toilets that keep running, and a relief valve that drips on the water heater. City code adds that where the city puts a dual check valve at the meter, protecting the house against thermal expansion is the customer's job (source). An expansion tank at the water heater is the usual protection. We can test your pressure as part of leak detection.

Who is responsible for the water line and the sewer line at a Tooele house?

The meter divides the water line. Tooele City Code says the city maintains the service pipe from the main to and including the meter and the parts in the meter box. The water user maintains every pipe and fixture on the outlet side of the meter box, at their own expense (source). The sewer is different: the whole lateral is yours. Tooele City says property owners are responsible for installing and maintaining their sewer lateral from the home to its connection into the main in the street. The city names fats poured down sink drains as one of the major causes of backups (source). If sewage is backing up, keep people and pets away from it and stop running water. Drain cleaning clears a clog. If it comes back, a sewer camera inspection shows whether the pipe needs sewer line repair. For a leak on your side of the meter, we do leak detection.

Who has to test a backflow preventer in Tooele?

The customer does. Tooele City Code says it is the consumer's responsibility to purchase, install, and arrange and pay for the testing and maintenance of any backflow prevention assembly the city's cross connection ordinance requires. It also says every assembly shall be tested within ten working days of when it is first installed (source). State rule says backflow assemblies shall be tested at least once a year by a certified tester (source). The reason is in the city's 2025 water quality report: a lawn sprinkler system that gets stuck open after you have fertilized is a potential cross connection, and so is a garden hose lying in a puddle (source). When pressure in the main drops, that water can flow back into the pipes you drink from. We do backflow testing for homes and businesses in Tooele. If an assembly fails, we show you the readings and explain the repair. An assembly that froze and cracked over the winter has to be replaced with an approved one.

How cold does Tooele get, and how deep are the water lines?

Cold enough to freeze a pipe. The Tooele weather station sits at 1,506.9 meters, about 4,940 feet. Its 1991–2020 climate normals show a normal January low of 20.6°F, and an average of 28.3 January days with a low at or below 32°F (source). Tooele City Code answers the second question: underground service pipes must be laid with not less than four feet of cover (source). The pipes that freeze are the shallow and exposed ones: a hose left on an outdoor faucet, a sprinkler line, a pipe in a crawl space or an unheated garage. Know where your main water valve is before winter. If a pipe bursts, close that valve, then call our emergency line. If water is near outlets or cords, stay out of it, and shut off power at the breaker only if you can reach it from a dry spot. For a pipe that is frozen but has not burst, see frozen pipes.

How old are homes in Tooele, and what does that mean for the plumbing?

The Census Bureau's 2020–2024 estimates put the median year built for homes in Tooele city at 1994, with a margin of error of 2 years (source). About half of the homes are older than that. Tooele City Code places the Overlake planned district between 1000 North and 2000 North, from SR-36 to 400 West, and the city enacted it in 1997 (source). ENERGY STAR says to consider replacement once a water heater is more than 10 years old (source). A home from the 1990s has likely had its water heater replaced at least once. Check the date on the label of yours. If it is past that age, see water heater replacement. In an older house, the supply pipe and the drain may be the originals. Pressure that has dropped over the years, or pinhole leaks in more than one place, point to repiping.
