Sewer ejector pit replacement

Park CityOctober 2025

Problem
A home's sewer ejector pit needed to be replaced with a larger one that fits both of its pumps.
What we did
We jackhammered the floor, avoiding the radiant tubing in it, and installed a new, larger pit. The pumps and alarms were only a year old and sized for the home, so we installed the two pumps and their alarm floats in the new pit, sealed the new lid, and put concrete back around the pit.

Cities we serve in Summit County

We work in nine counties. Not sure if we reach you? Call and ask.

How hard is the water in Park City and the Snyderville Basin?

Hard to very hard, and it depends on where you live. Park City tests hardness every quarter in eight areas of its water system. From the third quarter of 2025 through the second quarter of 2026, the results ran from 9 to 24 grains per gallon (source). Mountain Regional Water Special Service District says its water is approximately 300 mg/L of hardness, or approximately 17.5 grains per gallon, on a sheet that carries no date (source). The District also says hardness varies through the season and with the sources that feed your home. The U.S. Geological Survey calls water very hard above 180 mg/L, about 10.5 grains per gallon (source). Scale does the most harm where water is heated, in boilers and water heaters. We test at your tap before we size a water softener.

What is different about plumbing at Summit County's elevation?

The cold is deeper and lasts longer, and water lines have to be buried for it. The Park City weather station sits at 2,103.1 meters, about 6,900 feet. Its 1991–2020 climate normals show a normal January low of 15.6°F, and an average of 3.6 January days with a low at or below 0°F (source). Kamas, at about 6,480 feet, has a normal January low of 15.2°F (source). Summit County's building design criteria list a frost line depth of 36 inches and rate weathering as severe (source). A house that sits empty part of the winter is at more risk, because nobody is there when the heat stops. Know where your main water valve is, and shut it off if a pipe splits. Then call our emergency line.

Who is responsible for the sewer line from the house to the street in the Snyderville Basin?

The owner is, for the whole length. Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District says the private property owner is fully responsible for the entire length of the sewer lateral, from the building to the connection at the sewer main in the street or within an easement. It asks owners not to plant trees over or near the lateral, because roots invade through cracks or loose joints. It also says sump pumps must not be connected to the lateral and must discharge elsewhere (source). The District will inspect its main to tell you which side a problem is on. If sewage is backing up, keep people and pets away from it and stop running water. A sewer camera inspection shows the condition of your lateral. When it needs repair, see sewer line repair and trenchless sewer repair.

When does runoff peak in Summit County, and where can a sump pump drain?

Runoff peaks in early June. At the U.S. Geological Survey stream gauge on the Weber River near Oakley, the long-term average daily flow is highest in the first week of June. It tops out at 1,080 cubic feet per second on June 7, over water years 1905–2026 (source). That is when a sump pump works hardest. It cannot drain into the sewer. Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District calls any connection that lets ground water or snowmelt into a home's plumbing an illegal sewer connection, and names sump pumps as a common example (source). The water has to go outside, to a spot that slopes away from the foundation. We do sump pump installation and sump pump repair. A battery backup runs the pump when the power is out.

What heating work do you do in Summit County?

We work on hot water heating systems, which plumbers call hydronics. That covers three things. A boiler heats water and pumps it through the house. We do boiler installation and boiler repair. Radiant floor heating runs that warm water through tubing in the floor. A snowmelt system runs it under a driveway or walk. With a normal January low of 15.6°F at the Park City weather station (source), these systems run for months. Have a boiler serviced before the cold arrives, not during it. If you smell gas near a boiler or water heater, leave the building and call the gas utility or 911 first, then call us. Do not look for the leak yourself.

How do you schedule plumbing jobs in Summit County?

We are based in Lehi and send plumbers into Summit County from there. We do not post an arrival time on this page, because we have not measured one and will not promise a number we cannot keep. When you call, a person tells you when a plumber can be there. For a burst pipe, no heat, or a sewage backup, call our emergency line. It is answered 24/7. For planned work, such as a boiler service or a softener, you can book a visit. Estimates are free, and you get the estimate before any work starts. Our work carries a guarantee, and financing is available for larger jobs. We offer the same services in Park City and in Kamas, for homes and for businesses.
