Who supplies the water in Draper, and how hard is it?

Draper has two water systems. Draper City owns and operates one, and WaterPro, a Draper Irrigation company, runs the other (source). The Utility Services App on that city page shows which one serves your address. Draper City buys its water from Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, and its 2025 Water Quality Report lists no hardness figure (source). The district's own 2025 report lists total hardness averaging 182.4 mg/L, about 10.7 grains per gallon (source). WaterPro's report for 2025 lists an average of 184.1 mg/L, about 10.8 grains per gallon (source). The U.S. Geological Survey calls water above 180 mg/L very hard (source). Those are averages across each system, and the water at your tap can differ. We test at your tap before we size a water softener.

How old are homes in Draper, and what does that mean for a water heater?

The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 estimates put the median year built for Draper homes at 2003 (source). That means about half of them were built before 2003. A water heater that went in when one of those houses was built is now more than twenty years old. Hard water is rough on tanks. Minerals settle on the bottom of the tank each time the water is heated. Watch for rumbling or popping as the tank heats, rusty hot water, water around the base, and hot water that runs out sooner than it used to. We do water heater repair and water heater replacement, and we install tankless water heaters. We tell you plainly whether a repair makes sense. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility or 911 first, then call us.

Do my sprinklers in Draper need a backflow test?

If they connect to drinking water, plan on one every year. Draper City says its backflow administrator performs a hazard assessment of all commercial buildings and residential irrigation systems, and that it is the owner's responsibility to have the assembly tested annually (source). State rule says backflow assemblies shall be tested at least once a year by a certified tester (source). Some Draper yards water with secondary water instead. The city says WaterPro provides it to its customers, that it is typically turned on by April 15 and shut off around October 15, and that Draper City does not offer the service. Secondary water and drinking water must stay separate. We do backflow testing for homes and businesses in Draper, and we repair or replace an assembly that fails its test.

Who is responsible for the sewer line at my home in Draper?

You are, from the house to the main. Jordan Basin Improvement District, which used to be called South Valley Sewer District, collects the sewage in Draper (source). The District says it is only responsible for its own main, not your line or your connection to the main, and that it is against the law for it to work on private property (source). It also says sewer backups are not automatically covered by every homeowner's insurance policy. If sewage is backing up, keep people and pets away from it and stop running water. The District says that turning off all water use will generally stop a backup that starts in the house plumbing or the private line. A sewer camera inspection shows where the problem is. From there we do drain cleaning or sewer line repair.

How do you schedule plumbing jobs in Draper?

We do not have an office in Draper. Our shop is in Lehi, and our plumbers drive to Draper from there, whether the job is on the valley floor or up in Suncrest or South Mountain. We do not post an arrival time on this page, because we have not measured one and will not promise a number we cannot keep. When you call, a person tells you when a plumber can be there. For a burst pipe, a sewage backup, or no hot water, call our emergency line. It is answered 24/7. For planned work, such as a new water heater or a yearly backflow test, you can book a visit. Estimates are free, and you get the estimate before any work starts. Our work carries a guarantee, and financing is available for larger jobs.
